Frequently Asked Questions

    • How can I purchase a piece from your current online selection?

Simply fill out the form on the ‘contact us’ page of our website and specify which item you like. I will come back to you directly and as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can text message/ send a what’s app on +44 (0) 7816002686

    • Are your available designs eligible for resizing or tailoring?

Any items that are already made are sold as seen unless this is a ring in which case I will resize it once for free. If you are inspired by one of our designs and want to tailor it, then I can make you a similar item bespoke.

    • Is it possible to reserve a specific creation for a limited time?

Yes, no problem. Please just contact me via the ‘contact us’ page or send me a text message / What’s app on +44 (0) 7816002686. I can reserve an item for a maximum of 5 business days after which I cannot guarantee it will still be available.

    • What is the presentation of the packaging? Do you offer gift wrapping?

Items are presented in their own jewellery box and I can arrange gift wrapping.

    • How do I find my ring size?

The best way to know your ring size is to pop into a jewellery store, browse their items and then ask to use their ring sizer.

Alternatively, there are a few other methods as suggested by reputable brands such as Tiffany & Co:  Ring Size Chart & Guide: How to Measure My Ring Size? | Tiffany & Co.

    • What are your policies regarding returns, exchanges and warranties?

I want you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase. If you aren’t, then please say so within the first 30 calendar days from receipt of the item.  For items purchased from the existing On The Rocks collection, these can be returned or exchanged within 3o days as long as it has not been modified or damaged.

For bespoke items, you will have been asked to sign off the design and therefore there is a no-return policy. We do however want you to love your item and if it is not as you expected then we can try to return to the bench where possible to make small changes.

Our items are built to be worn and to last. We guarantee the item against original manufacturing issues for 3 years - excluding if any amendments / resizing has taken place by a jeweller other than myself. If something happens after that time please come back and see me nonetheless to see what we can do.

I would caution purchasers that jewelery is, although built to be worn, relatively fragile and should be cared for appropriately over time. Like anything, usual wear & tear will take place over the course of many years and I suggest you have your items inspected for general condition every few years. In particular, please pay close attention to the center stone on a regular basis. If you feel there is any movement, then please do not wear the item as it is important to have the prongs fixed as soon as possible as you may loose the stone and we cannot guarantee such a loss.

    • How do I care for my jewellery: Coloured gemstones required more gentel care than diamonds given their physical properties. Never have your coloured gemstones cleaned by ultrasonic machines or cleaned with any product / chemicals. Warm soapy water with a gentle soft-bristle toothbrush and gem polishing cloth are best. Please keep your item seperate from other items of jewellery, preferably in its own box or soft pouch.

    • How long will it take to receive my order?

Already made items can be shipped quickly. Bespoke items take about 6-8weeks to make once the design has been signed off.

    • Which shipping carriers do you use?

Only reputable carriers are used and the items are insured, tracked and signed for. Shipping and insurance costs will be paid for by the purchaser as well as any applicable duty charges if shipped internationally.

    • Do you facilitate international delivery, and are duties integrated into the final cost?

Delivery and applicable customs & duty charges are  paid for by the purchaser and are not integrated into the final cost. I can facilitate the international delivery but cannot be held responsible for any delays at the border as a result of custom processing and administration.

    • Are priority or expedited shipping options available?

Yes, I will work with you to understand your timeline and will offer you the quickest shipment options available. Note that all shipping costs, insurance costs, customs and duty fees are paid for by the purchaser.

    • Are shipments fully insured during transit?

I highly recommend that shipments are fully ensured during transit, although ultimately this is the choice of the purchaser who is responsible for selecting which shipment method they prefer and paying for associated shipping costs, insurance costs, customs and duty fees.

    • What is the starting price for a custom piece?

Although there is no minimum price for a custom piece, purchasers looking for a lower price point (< £1,000 ) bespoke item can more readily (and at lower cost) find this through other vendors such as Etsy or similar online marketplaces. This is predominantly because all On The Rocks items are handmade and we do not use imported mass market setttings.

I am happy to have a discussion about what you want and am always up front about costs. I pride myself in working within my clients’ budget, and if I am not able then I always try and find an alternative marketplace where you can source such an item.

    • What is the duration of the design and fabrication process for custom work?

Please see our ‘Bespoke’ page for details of this process and duration which tends to be up to 12 weeks in total.

    • Could you walk me through the bespoke journey from concept to completion?

The entire process from initial enquiry to deliver of product can take up to 12 weeks, although this will depend on how quickly we can find your perfect gemstone and how quickly we can agree on what design works best for you.

    • Which gemstones are available for a custom creation?

All gemstones that can be sourced are available for custom creation. However, I will be open with you if I do not feel a gemstone has the right characteristics for a type of jewellery/ usage you are after. For instance, some gemstones like opals and pearls have low durability charateristics and shouldn’t ideally be set in a ring that you intend on wearing daily.

    • Are your gemstones ethically sourced or lab-grown?

Unlike Diamonds which mostly come from large corporate-owned mines, 80% of coloured gemstones come from family-owned small mines around the world. Unless you get the gemstones directly at source – or work directly with someone who does – then it is difficult to be entirely confident that they were sourced in an ethical manner.

For On The Rocks jewellery, I try where possible to work as close to the source as possible and some of my gemstones I can trace back directly to the mines. Others however it is simply not possible. I always do my best however as sustainability is something that I personally care about,  and where possible I use recycled gold to make items.

We do also work with lab-grown gemstones where available (diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies) and feel this is an excellent option for people looking for a more socially responsible option. These items tend to also be more affordable then their earth-mined equivalents. With lab stones, quality can vary greatly depending on growing methods. I am happy to have a chat about this during our consultation.

    • Which precious metals and fine materials are available for selection?

We work mostly with 9k or 18k yellow, rose or white gold or platinum. I can also make items in silver or 22k gold if desired.

    • Will my jewellery and stone come with any certification?

A retail valuation certificate will be issued for any items costing you above £3,500. The valuation will show the retail value of replacing the item an can be used for insurance purposes.

Where we use precious stones or certain high-value semi-precious stones we will provide a stone certificate issued by a respected industry professional body which will detail the stone’s unique characteristics.
